In-home Energy Audit Uncovers Hidden Problems

Posted by Paul Wadsworth on Wed, Jul 27, 2011 @ 02:03 PM

An energy audit will help you understand how energy efficient your home is and help you determine ways to make your home more energy efficient.  You can perform a simple energy assessment yourself or you can hire a professional energy auditor.  Hiring a professional offers the benefits of an experienced auditor who energy auditutilizes special techniques and equipment.    A professional auditor will measure the extent of leaks in the building with a special piece of equipment called blower doors.  An infrared camera is often used to show hard to detect areas of air infiltration and missing insulation.

If you are a Dominion East Ohio Gas customer, P.K. Wadsworth Heating and Cooling (an approved contractor partner with Dominion) can help you get an in-home energy audit for only $50.  This program is part of the national Energy Star program which helps homeowners improve their energy efficiency.  The in-home energy audit has a retail value of approximately $500.  Once the audit is complete, homeowners will get a detailed audit report that includes suggestions to improve home energy efficiency.  Homeowners can use this information to make changes that will improve home energy efficiency, lower utility costs and increase home comfort and safety.

Dominion East Ohio Gas also offers rebates for not only energy efficient heating equipment but also other energy savings ideas, too.  You could save up to $400 on a high-efficiency gas furnace or boiler replacement.    Homeowners are only eligible for these rebates after the successful completion of an in-home energy audit.  Columbia Gas had great success with this program in 2011 and is not taking any more new appointments for this year as their program is completely subscribed for the balance of the year.   Homeowners can also receive additional rebates from First Energy with the purchase of Energy Star qualified HVAC solutions.  For example, rebates of up to $150 can be received with the installation of a new high-efficiency central air conditioner.

This is a great time to upgrade your home comfort system.  With federal tax credits still available, homeowners can receive more than $1,000 in combined savings!   Please contact us and we can answer any questions about any of these programs and get you started on scheduling your in-home energy audit.  These programs are limited time offers so don’t miss out.  Simply contact our customer service representative, Kim, by calling 440-248-2110, ext. 138 or by email at kim@pkwadsworth.com
